The Journal of Strategic Studies, 6th Edition

The 6th issue of the Journal of Strategic Studies was published in April 2007.  The Journal of Strategic Studies is a periodic journal published in English and Arabic by the Bahrain Centre for Studies and Research, which aims to enrich scientific and academic research. The journal focuses on the publication of innovative and creative studies, analytical articles and interviews. It publishes articles on political, economic, social, educational and scientific issues, religion, the dialogue of civilizations, and their strategic dimensions, from a Gulf and Arab perspective.

The Spring 2007 issue contains a paper by HRH Prince El Hassan Bin Talal, President and Sponsor of the Arab Thought Forum and Ambassador for ISESCO for the Dialogue Among Cultures and Civilizations. HRH Prince Talal's paper is entitled, 'A World Without Walls and Boundaries'. 

In the Studies and Research section and written in English is a paper on 'The Role of Culture in Promoting Co-existence among Civilizations' by Dr. Mohamed Noman Galal, Advisor for Strategic Studies and Supervisor of the International Strategic Studies and Dialogue of Civilizations Programme at BCSR. 'American Strategy in the Gulf' is a paper by Dr. Colin Cavell, a lecturer at the University of Bahrain's American Studies Centre. A political analysis of the 'General Elections in Bahrain: Implications and Significance' is provided by Abdulnabi Alekry, a researcher at BCSR.

In the Arabic section are the following papers: 'The Economic Dimensions of the Accession of Yemen to the Gulf Cooperation Council' by Dr. Ali Abdulla Al-Mannai, Director of Regional Studies and Economic Integration at BCSR; 'The Neo-conservative Movement' by Dr. Alaa Abdul Hafez, a teacher of political science at Assuit University; 'The Strategy of Reform: Between the Khaldonian Approach and Modern Arab Visions' by Dr. Faisal Gharaibeh, a writer and teacher of sociology and social work at the University of Bahrain; and 'Syria and War Against Lebanon' by Dr. Radwan Ziadeh, Managing Director of the Damascus Centre for Human Rights.  Executive summaries of these papers are also provided in English.

The Book Review section includes the following reviews:  'Asian Security Reassessed' edited by Stephen Hoadley and Jurgen Ruland and reviewed by Maysa Al Thawadi, a researcher at BCSR; 'The Writing on the Wall' by Will Hutton and reviewed by Ahmed Elnoubi Mansour; and 'The Horseshoe Table: An Inside View of the UN Security Council' by Chinmaya R. Gharekhan and reviewed by Heather Anderson.
