Bahrain Centre for Studies and Research (BCSR) will launch its E-Library (Studies and Research Gateway) at 1 p.m. on Thursday 14 February 2008 at BCSR's headquarters in Awali. In setting up the E-Library, BCSR's objective has been to establish a database which includes scientific publications and activities, and academic theses prepared by Bahraini researchers, and to make them available to the wider community inside and outside Bahrain via the Internet.
Dr. Mohammed J. K. Alghatam, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Bahrain Centre for Studies and Research, stated that the centre aspires to establish the E-Library as the primary and comprehensive source of scientific research in the Kingdom of Bahrain. By using the most up-to-date and state-of-the-art technologies available, the centre's E-Library is a rich source of scientific information, which contains studies and publications available, and which will become the first port of call for researchers and those who seek information.
Dr. Alghatam added that the E-Library will enable researchers to access and download information onto their computers, thus saving time and effort. The resource is primarily for all those interested in accessing information on studies and for those who wish to find information on the Kingdom of Bahrain, or to view other publications in general. It is anticipated that the E-Library will be a reference source for information and statistics on the region, with links to other centres, regional government ministries and institutions. Dr. Alghatam indicated that the concept of the E-Library is the fruit of the cooperation between BCSR and Microsoft, which welcomed the project and supported it technically.
The E-Library contains many studies undertaken by BCSR, academic theses, academic research by Bahraini researchers, and scientific journals published by the centre, including the Journal of Strategic Studies and the Arab Journal of Food and Nutrition. The E-Library also contains audio recordings of the scientific seminars organized by the centre, political analysis bulletins, as well as research by Bahraini researchers who were awarded the Crown Prince's Award for Scientific Research.
