Since the inauguration of the Bahrain Centre for Studies and Research (BCSR) in 1981, the centre has been determined to disseminate information on the critical issues and problems which affect the growth, prosperity and development of the Kingdom of Bahrain, using professional and scientific research methodologies.
BSCR has always been ready to provide scientific advice and consultancy services to public and private sector institutions and to help devise efficient solutions to overcome particular barriers that may stand in the way of achieving sustainable development in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
According to its goals, BCSR undertakes strategic and scientific research, including surveys, studies and research for local and regional organizations, which are mainly sponsored by organizations on a contractual basis. The growth in demand for contractual studies and research reflects the expertise, high regard, and the degree of confidence that the BCSR has attained.
BCSR has always supported and encouraged Bahraini researchers. It has also continuously sought to encourage, direct and support the efforts of researchers in the scientific and technical fields. This has been achieved through several programmes, the most notable being the Crown Prince's Award for Scientific Research, which supports researchers and offers both academic and financial recognition for work in the natural sciences, engineering, health sciences, and economic and social sciences.
The centre endeavours to fully meet its responsibilities for the development of scientific research in the Kingdom of Bahrain and seizes all opportunities to promote scientific research and study in support of the efforts of the wise leadership of the Kingdom, and for the benefit and interests of the Bahraini people and society. This has been achieved through the programme of lectures, workshops, seminars and conferences held by the centre and through the publication of research studies, papers, books and journals. Two important refereed journals published by the centre are the Journal of Strategic Studies and the Arab Journal for Food and Nutrition.
The Government of Bahrain has fully supported the centre and taken a keen interest in its work. The support of the government for BCSR has ensured that the reputation and status of Bahrain is, and will remain, on a par with other developed countries.
