     Chairman's Message

His Excellency Dr. Mohammed J. K. Alghatam, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Bahrain Centre for Studies and Research
The Vital Role of Research

With the fast pace of international, regional and local development, there is an urgent need for assistance to help us understand what is happening in the world. We need to use scientific tools and methods of research to analyze and understand these changes.  The decisions and steps taken by organizations and decision-makers cannot rely on uninformed decision-making, but must be based on a solid foundation of careful research, data analysis and study, so that the right solutions can be found and problems can be solved.

Synchronized with the current developments, on which the government of Bahrain has placed its focus, it has become necessary to increase the areas of scientific research, as well as to study national and international developments, according to a proper procedural framework, so that the right decisions can be made for the benefit of Bahraini society.

Bahrain Centre for Studies and Research (BCSR) has been focused on this mission for some time and has, accordingly, increased its research efforts in a number of important fields.  The centre's continuing programmes of study and research, as well as the lectures, seminars, workshops and conferences which it holds, are all focused on important national and international issues, in order to deepen understanding and find solutions, as well, as to provide positive and real recommendations which provide the bedrock for informed decision-making in our beloved Kingdom.

The centre's basic aim is not only to provide scientific research on social, economic and strategic issues, but also on education, fisheries resources, nutrition, the environment, water, energy and public opinion polls.  The centre is a key think-tank and the first institution in Bahrain for applied research to offer consultancies to leaders and decision-makers in both the public and private sectors.

BCSR has focused much attention on developing relations and cooperative projects with regional and international research centres and institutions in the Gulf and Middle East, Asia, Australia, Europe, North Africa and the United States. It has also participated in international seminars and conferences and has invited thinkers and professionals from around the world to deliver lectures at the centre.  BCSR is looking to further its cooperation with similar institutions in other countries, and for further dialogue and discussion in order to share ideas, expertise and to build trust across the different continents and cultures.
